To avoid injury and contain shattered fragments while you work, secure any cracked display glass with tape.
Apply strips of transparent packing tape across the iPhone screen, ensuring complete coverage by layering them.
To prevent glass fragments from scattering and maintain stability during the display separation process, this technique is essential.
To safeguard your eyes from potential glass fragments that may detach during the repair process, it is essential to use safety glasses.

Step 2 | Dock Connector

Step 2 image
Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, detach the two screws securing the dock connector.

Step 3

Step 3 image
For improved handling and safety, detach the metal handle from the suction cup; gripping the suction cup's base directly provides a more secure hold.
Exercise extreme caution during iPhone disassembly to prevent damage to the delicate display cables.
A black display assembly is sealed to the silver front bezel by a rubber gasket, and disassembling these components necessitates applying moderate pressure.
Employing a miniature suction device positioned close to the Home button, carefully lift the lower section of the iPhone’s display assembly.
When the display assembly's surface prevents a secure bond with the suction cup due to damage, apply a robust adhesive tape, like duct tape, as an alternative.

Step 4

Step 4 image
Before completely separating the display assembly from the iPhone, remember that it remains secured by three cables and premature removal could cause damage.
Position the display assembly, pivoting it upwards, so it forms an angle of roughly 45 degrees relative to its original position.
Exercise caution during display assembly removal, as cable 4 may adhere to its rear surface, potentially leading to detachment or damage if force is applied.

Step 5

Step 5 image
Using one hand to secure the display assembly, employ a spudger with your other hand to carefully detach the ribbon cable marked with the identifier "1."
Beginning with the ribbon assembly, proceed systematically outward to the case's perimeter.

Step 6

Step 6 image
Adjust the display assembly's orientation so it stands nearly upright, which will simplify the process of detaching the remaining connectors.
Carefully detach the ribbon cable identified with the label "2" using a spudger.

Step 7

Step 7 image
Employ a spudger to lift the 90-degree rotating white plastic tab, which secures the ribbon cable. This action will disengage the cable.
Carefully disconnect the black ribbon cable by sliding it from its connector, then detach the display assembly from the iPhone.

Step 8

Step 8 image
Using a SIM eject tool or a straightened paper clip, gently push into the small aperture located adjacent to the headphone jack.
Apply pressure to the tool, ensuring it remains aligned, until the SIM card tray ejects.
Using your fingers, extract the SIM card tray from the iPhone by moving it outward.

Step 9

Step 9 image
Carefully detach the ribbon cable identified as "4" using a spudger.

Carefully detach the ribbon cable identified as "6" using a spudger.
For iPhone 3GS models, consult image 2 and employ a spudger to release the ribbon cable identified as "7".

Step 12

Step 12 image
Exercise caution while lifting the adhesive label marked with the warning "Do not remove."

Step 13

Step 13 image
Using the appropriate screwdriver, detach the eight screws.
The logic board is affixed to the rear panel using five screws; each is 2.3 mm in length, features a Phillips #00 head, and has partial threads.
The logic board and camera are fastened together using two screws; each is a full-thread Phillips #00 screw with a 2.3 mm head.
Locate the "Do not remove" sticker and, underneath it, you will find a 2.9 mm Phillips #00 screw.

Step 14

Step 14 image
Carefully detach the camera retaining clip—previously held in place by the screw you already removed—with a spudger, then gently lift the camera assembly from its position within the rear panel; note that the camera remains connected to the logic board at the bottom and is not yet fully removable.

Step 15

Step 15 image
Carefully lift the logic board's edge, near the dock connector, using a spudger, applying gentle force.
A fragile, gold-colored grounding tab, located near the 'Do not remove' label on the logic board, requires extreme caution during logic board removal to prevent damage from contact with the device casing. Should you encounter signal issues following logic board separation, inspect this ground tab for damage or disconnection.
Ensure all eight screws holding the logic board in place are completely detached if you encounter difficulty freeing it.

Step 16

Step 16 image
Carefully advance the logic board in the direction of the dock connector to disengage it from the iPhone's internal housing.

Step 17

Step 17 image
Using the appropriate screwdriver, detach the three screws.
Securely fasten the dock connector with two Phillips #00 screws, each measuring 1.5 mm, positioning one screw on each side.
Locate the ribbon cable and identify the screw marked "4"; it is secured with a Phillips #00 screwdriver and measures 2.4 mm.

Step 18

Step 18 image
Carefully raise the dock connector assembly, ensuring it disengages completely from the iPhone.
Align the screw apertures on the replacement unit so they are positioned higher than the corresponding holes in the bezel.
