To avoid damaging the ribbon connector and requiring a display replacement, carefully slide the spudger in from the left side, positioning it beneath the ribbon as illustrated. Attempting to lift the ribbon from the right will likely result in connector damage.

Step 6 | Disconnect cable 2

Step 7 | Disconnect cable 3

Certain international (Chinese, European) 3G models lack the plastic tab used to release the ribbon cable; instead, slide the cable toward the display to detach it. During reassembly, ensure the ribbon cable is firmly seated within its connector by applying even pressure.
Connector "3" on certain iPhone models exhibits an inverted color scheme, featuring a black plastic tab and a white connector; ensure the tab is raised correctly to prevent connector damage.
Employ a spudger to lift the white plastic tab, which secures ribbon cable "3" by rotating it upward 90 degrees, thereby disengaging the cable.
Carefully disconnect the black ribbon cable by sliding it from its connector, then detach the display assembly from the iPhone.

Step 8 | Remove the SIM card tray

Apply downward force to the ejection tool until the SIM card tray releases.

  • Before pressing the ribbon cables into place, carefully verify that their connectors match the motherboard sockets precisely; magnification with a magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe may be necessary for accurate alignment.

Step 12 | Remove the logic board screws

  • Detach the component by disengaging eight fasteners.

    • The logic board is attached to the rear case using five screws; each is 2.3 mm in length, features a Phillips #00 head, and has partial threads.

    • The logic board and camera are fastened together using two screws; each is a full-thread Phillips #00 screw, measuring 2.3 mm in diameter.

    • Locate the "Do not remove" sticker and, underneath it, you'll find a 2.9 mm Phillips #00 screw.

    During reassembly, ensure all components are properly aligned and secured according to the original configuration, maintaining specified tolerances and using the appropriate tools to avoid damage.
    The camera is secured by a metal strip affixed with the orange-highlighted screw located on the bottom right side.
    Before securing the camera with the fully threaded Phillips #00 screw, measuring 2.3 mm, ensure the strip is correctly positioned.

Step 13 | Loosen the camera

  • Due to its connection to the logic board's base, complete camera removal is currently not possible.

Step 14 | Remove the logic board

  • Due to its proximity to the 'do not remove' label, the logic board's small, gold-colored grounding tab is fragile and susceptible to damage. Exercise extreme caution to prevent this tab from catching on the device casing during logic board removal; breakage occurs readily. Post-removal signal issues may indicate a damaged ground tab, requiring inspection.
    Carefully verify that each screw holding the logic board in place has been completely unscrewed if you encounter resistance when attempting to separate it.

Step 15

  • Carefully advance the logic board in the direction of the dock connector to disengage it from the iPhone's internal housing.

  • Before securing the logic board within the device enclosure following battery installation, establish the camera connection to the board. Prior to fully seating the logic board, carefully position the upper portion, specifically the area housing the SIM tray, ensuring proper alignment. Failure to do so may result in SIM tray misalignment. With the upper section correctly situated, the remaining portion of the logic board can then be positioned. Correct installation is confirmed when the SIM tray aligns with its corresponding aperture in the iPhone case and the camera module is fully and flushly seated.

Step 16 | Loosen the battery

Carefully align the 4mm hex key to the setscrew on the motor shaft, ensuring it is fully seated, and then tighten the setscrew to a torque of 1.5 Nm using the torque wrench.
  • Carefully lift the battery from the rear case using a spudger, as it is secured by an adhesive strip that runs along its edges.
  • Employing solely the plastic pull tab to detach the battery risks causing damage due to excessive force; therefore, avoid this practice.
  • Disconnecting the battery isn't required when replacing the GPS antenna; however, doing so provides additional clearance for headphone assembly removal, though complete removal of the headphone assembly isn't essential for the antenna replacement procedure.
  • The iPhone battery is secured to the rear enclosure using a low-strength adhesive, which typically remains adhered to the battery during removal. If your new battery has pre-applied adhesive, no further action is needed; otherwise, carefully move the adhesive from the original battery to the replacement.
  • To release a battery that is stuck to the back cover, carefully introduce a small amount of isopropyl alcohol with a concentration exceeding 90% between the battery's edge and the case. Let the alcohol sit for approximately one minute to dissolve the adhesive. Then, use the spudger’s flat end to carefully pry the battery loose. Ensure the alcohol completely evaporates before the new battery is placed.
  • To prevent damage, avoid using excessive force when removing the battery. If the adhesive is still holding, add a small amount of additional alcohol to help dissolve it. Ensure the pry tool does not bend, break, or penetrate the battery casing during the separation process.
  • Applying gentle heat to the case's rear surface with a hair dryer or heat gun, set to its minimum temperature, will soften the adhesive securing the battery, making it easier to detach the battery from the case back with a spudger.
    • To prevent battery ignition, avoid exposing the iPhone to excessive heat.

Step 17 | Headphone Jack

Carefully align the 4mm hex key to the setscrew located on the motor shaft, ensuring it is fully seated, then apply a torque of 1.2 Nm using the torque wrench to secure the fan blade.
  • Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, detach the on/off switch from the front bezel by unscrewing the two screws that hold it in place.
  • Verify the switch's extension during replacement; a thin plastic spacer is affixed inside the button and can detach during cleaning. Absence of this spacer may result in insufficient button projection for proper operation, so if lost, substitute with a piece of rigid plastic material approximately the same thickness, such as a section cut from a shirt box lid.

Step 18

Carefully align the 4mm diameter dowel pins with their corresponding holes in both the upper and lower chassis halves, then gently press the halves together until fully seated, ensuring no gaps are visible.
Gently lift the orange ribbon cable away from the back cover, exercising caution.
Exercise extreme caution when handling the ribbon cable, as it is susceptible to damage.

Step 19

Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully tighten the four screws securing the motor assembly to the chassis, ensuring each is snug but not over-torqued to prevent damage; observe polarity markings before reattaching the wiring harness, and then reconnect the connector, noting that a clicking sound indicates proper seating.
Using the appropriate screwdriver, detach the four screws.
  • Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the three 1.8 mm screws that fasten the headphone jack and GPS antenna assembly to the rear case; be sure to remember the sequence, because the screw on the left side is distinguished by its slightly larger head.
  • A plastic loop positioned close to the headphone jack secures a 3.8 mm Phillips #00 screw.

Step 20

Carefully secure the 1/4-inch diameter hose clamp using pliers, ensuring it is positioned precisely at the 3-inch mark from the pump housing's edge, and observe the warning regarding potential pinch points during tightening.
Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, detach the four screws that hold the volume and mute switch in place.
The mute switch assembly is located directly beneath the volume switch assembly; during disassembly, carefully retain the small, flexible cushioning pad affixed to the mute switch, as its absence will result in a loose fit upon reassembly.
Ensure the mute switch is set to "off" while tightening its screws. Verify the switch's extension when activated; insufficient projection indicates improper assembly alignment. Examine the space between the switch frame and bezel—specifically, the white gap visible between the two screws located near the 6 o'clock position—to confirm correct positioning. Note that one screw is longer than the remaining three and account for this during reassembly.

Step 21

Step 22

To facilitate installation of the replacement mute button, slide the green mute switch to the muted position, moving it downward toward the rear of the iPhone.

Step 23 | GPS Antenna

If the replacement rear panel lacks a pre-tapped screw hole at this specific point, it will require modification.

Step 24

Step 25 | Rear Case

Ensure the lock button, affixed to a metal handle, is oriented correctly during reassembly; it allows for 180-degree rotation on one side and 135 degrees on the other, and must be positioned with the metal handle facing downwards, toward the back panel, by rotating it 180 degrees.

Step 26

Because these fasteners are narrower than the remaining screws, ensure they are stored separately to prevent confusion during reassembly.

Step 28

Secure the dock connector with two Phillips #00 screws, each measuring 1.5mm, positioned one on each side.
Locate the ribbon cable marked with the identifier "4," and secure it with a Phillips #00 screwdriver to loosen a single 2.4mm screw.

Step 29

Carefully raise the dock connector assembly, ensuring it disengages completely from the iPhone.
Ensure correct orientation during reassembly; the assembly must be positioned above the bezel screw holder, as incorrect placement below will render the Home Button inoperable.
