iPhone 4 Power & Sensor Cable Replacement

  • Carefully extract the battery from the iPhone by utilizing the provided clear plastic tab to apply gentle upward pressure.
    Should the battery's retaining tab fracture during separation, introduce a small quantity of isopropyl alcohol with a concentration exceeding 90% beneath the battery's edge. Allow approximately one minute for the solvent to dissolve the adhesive bond. Then, gently insert a spudger beneath the battery tab to detach the adhesive.
    To avoid damage, do not attempt to force the battery free using leverage elsewhere. If the adhesive remains strong, add additional drops of alcohol to loosen it. Ensure the pry tool does not puncture or bend the battery’s structure.
    To prevent damage, ensure any residual alcohol solution is completely removed by wiping with a clean cloth or by permitting full evaporation before proceeding with the new battery installation.
    Carefully detach the protective plastic covering from the new battery by gently separating it from the ribbon cable.
    Ensure the red-marked contact clip is correctly situated adjacent to the battery connector prior to reattaching the battery connector.
    To prevent wireless interference, use a de-greaser like Windex to thoroughly clean all metal surfaces that will be in contact during reassembly, as oils from handling can disrupt wireless signals.
    Following reassembly, execute a factory reset to proactively avoid potential problems and streamline any subsequent diagnostic procedures.

Step 7 | Logic Board

  • Employing a SIM card eject tool or a straightened paperclip, release the SIM card and its corresponding tray.

To prevent damage and confusion during reassembly, initially secure the 4.8 mm Philips screw, followed by the 2.3 mm screw; this order helps avoid incorrectly matching screws and potentially rendering the LCD and digitizer non-functional.
Ensure the lengthy 4.8 mm Philips screw is properly positioned during reassembly, as it serves as the Wi-Fi antenna ground and is frequently responsible for poor Wi-Fi signal strength following repairs.

Carefully separate the Wi-Fi antenna from the logic board by gently prying upwards on its top edge with an iPod opening tool.
Carefully detach the Wi-Fi module's securing clips from the internal frame using the pointed end of a spudger.
To maintain proper Wi-Fi functionality, carefully detach the antenna during disassembly, and be certain to retain the two 4.8mm screws and the metal clips located on the cover’s upper edge; their loss is a common cause of degraded Wi-Fi performance following reassembly.
To prevent potential wireless interference, thoroughly remove any oils from the connector cover's metal-to-metal contact areas using a de-greaser like Windex; however, avoid applying the de-greaser directly to the connectors.

  • Carefully detach the microphone/sleep button cable by gently separating it from the top assembly.
  • Carefully disengage the front camera cable by applying prying force from above.

To detach standoff screws, utilize a standoff screwdriver or a compatible bit.
If a specialized tool isn't available, a small flathead screwdriver can be carefully employed; however, exercise heightened awareness to prevent slippage and potential harm to nearby parts.
To ensure proper alignment during reassembly, this standoff establishes the correct height for the Wi-Fi shield previously detached in step 13; failure to adequately tighten it will prevent the shield from being level with the frame, hindering the back panel’s insertion in step 2. Confirm the shield is flush with the headphone jack.
To guarantee proper alignment during reassembly, position the motherboard's edge beneath the designated standoff, as indicated by the circle, to allow for screw installation.
Confirm the tiny rubber spacer, positioned atop the motherboard, is correctly installed during reassembly.
Absence of this component creates a risk of damage to the surrounding ribbon cables on the motherboard.

Step 19

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver with a 1.4 mm tip.
Carefully extract the vibrator component from within the inner case.

Gently lift the power button bracket vertically to disengage it from the outer case.

Observe the vertically-mounted, gold-colored, rectangular microphone on the case exterior, and exercise caution to prevent damage while disconnecting the associated cable.

Step 27

Using a 5/32-inch hex key, carefully tighten the four M4x8 pan head screws securing the fan assembly to the heatsink, ensuring a torque of no more than 6 in-lbs to prevent damage.
To install a replacement power & sensor cable, carefully separate the electronic power switch from its metal bracket using the edge of a plastic opening tool.
If your replacement power and sensor cable lacks the small, square proximity sensor foam/UV-filter, carefully detach it from the original cable using tweezers and apply it to the new one.
Secure the bracket to the replacement power and sensor cable.
